This is where my photography began. Working for international charities, I travelled through Zambia, South Africa and Botswana, often to remote communities, from the compounds of the Copperbelt in northern Zambia to the Herero women of Botswana.

The approach was the same as it is now: observing patiently, working in natural light and letting people and place tell their own story. These images sit at the root of everything else on this site.
